How to decide whether AI belongs in your product

Begin with a user task that is hard to accomplish today.

Name the job

Identify the specific decision or repetitive task. Describe what a useful output looks like and what happens when the system is wrong.

Choose the smallest workflow

Start with one bounded use case, such as drafting, retrieval, classification, or assisted analysis. Keep source context available and allow people to correct outputs.

Measure usefulness

Set baseline measures for task completion, quality, time, and error rates. Evaluate with examples from the actual workflow before wider rollout.

Design for trust

Make uncertainty visible. Define who reviews consequential outputs, how private data is handled, and what the system should do when it lacks enough information.
